Music MinistriesChoirsThomson First United Methodist Church offers an exciting and very active music ministry, with rich traditions. Please contact Jeanie Joesbury, director of music ministries, for any questions about music ministries.
Chancel ChoirThis choir serves as worship leaders for the 11:15 a.m. traditional worship service and is at the heart of special music presented during the Christmas season and for combined worship services, which occur four times per year. Practice is on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:00 PM. For many of our special offerings of music, the Chancel Choir joins together with the Son Rise, Pathway and Canterbury choirs and instrumentalists, many of whom are members of this congregation or The from the Augusta and Athens area. Several of our choir members participate annually in Music Week at Lake Junaluska, NC, where they do in depth study of worship arts.
Sonrise ChoirThe Son Rise Choir serves as worship leaders for the 8:30 a.m. traditional worship service and they rehearse at 7:45 AM each Sunday morning. This choir joins the Chancel, Pathway, and Canterbury Choir for special musical offerings during the church year.
Wesley Ringers Handbell ChoirYouth and adults may participate in the Wesley Ringers Handbell Choir. The choir plays regularly for worship services throughout the year and is led by our organist, Dale Hesse. They meet on Sunday evenings from 6:15 - 7:15 p.m.
Wesleymen Men's Quartet
The Wesleymen Quartet is a group of men who sing gospel music regularly at churches all over the state of Georgia and for community clubs and local events. The current members are Bill Howard, Wilson Hemphill, Linton Neal and Mat Neal. The men donate any money that they receive for performing to The Methodist Children's Home or other ministries in our church and community who are in need.
Sunshine Club Choir
The Sunshine Club choir is a ministry of the Sunshine Club for Senior Adults. They meet once a month at 12:30 p.m., immediately following the Sunshine Club meeting on the 3rd Thursday of each month. All adults are invited to join this choir!
![]() ![]() ![]() Pathway Student ChoirPathway is open to all students in the 7th thru 12th grades. Pathway practices on Sunday evenings at 5:00 PM, ending in time to go to DropZone youth activities at 6:00 PM. In addition to singing regularly for worship services, this choir also goes on tour each summer. Choir tour combines opportunties to sing in churches, hospitals, homeless shelters and senior centers in other communities. This past June, Pathway went on an excitng trip to New York City, ministering by singing at several homes for Seniors. Before the group left on tour, they also sang and presented puppet shows at the TFUMC Soup Kitchen and the Thomson Housing Authority. Pathway participates in our annual Christmas Concert which includes orchestra.
Canterbury ChoirCanterbury choir is a choir designed for 2nd thru 6th grade children, and they rehearse from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. These children sing during Sunday morning worship throughout the year, and participate in a Christmas Concert with the other choirs as well as participate in a spring musical. Cherub ChoirFour-year-olds thru 2nd grade students make up this choir that rehearses on Wednesdays from 6:00 - 6:45 p.m. After practice, the children enjoy a time of play and winding down before their parents pick them up at 7:00 PM. This group is led by Joyce Cheek.
